Do We Really Need More Parkland in South Unionville?... My Opinion...
I live in South Unionville, and when I walk around my community I see vast areas of parkland.. It's pretty much the same as it is in other communities in Markham. Except, we also have a very nice walking path around our storm water pond.
According to ratepayer SUCA president, South Unionville 'is living in a parkland deficit situation.'
And SUCA has suggested a solution.... 'expropriation'.
Everyone knows that expropriation is an excessive use of force. So, to force this on the senior citizens who own the land and rely on it to sustain themselves is just plain wrong. Rate payer groups like SUCA, do some very good things for their communities. But, 'expropriation' as a solution to a marginal parkland deficiency?
I'd like to ask, SUCA president, how he would feel if his parents were forced to leave their home because a 'park' needed to be built? What would he say, to his elderly parents? 'Okay folks time is up, you're moving; you've been here long enough, we need more parkland.'
SUCA, does not speak for everybody in the community. Certainly not for the residents who have lived here for many, many years.
